Free and Reduced Lunch Programs
In recognizing the need for helping meet the nutritional requirements of children and to comply with Public Law 91-238 and the regulations of the United Stated Department of Agriculture, the Brandywine Heights Area School District makes available to children of eligible families, a reduced price or free lunch. An income scale is used to determine eligibility of children for inclusion in the program.

Parents who feel that their children may be eligible should complete the application form and return or present the form to their school office where the child attends. The information will be forwarded to the food service department, where the applications are reviewed. Parents are informed of their children's eligibility. In deciding if children are eligible for either a free or a reduced price lunch, consideration is given to unusual circumstances such as seasonal unemployment and similar emergency situations. If an application is rejected, the reason for rejection will be clearly stated in a return notice. This notice will also tell how and to whom an appeal may be made. All applications will be handled privately and information will be kept in strict confidence. Children who receive free or reduced price lunches will be treated in the same manner as those who pay the full price. In the operation of the child feeding programs, no child will be discriminated against because of race, gender, color, national origin, age, or disability.

Free and Reduced Eligibility Carry Over
If your son/daughter received a free or reduced lunch during the month of June 2008, he/she will be eligible as a carry over for lunch during the months of August/September 2008. You must file a new application form by October 6, 2008, and be approved for whichever category of eligibility by the Food Service Supervisor, in order to qualify for this service for the remainder of the school term.

Throughout the year, you must inform the school if your household size decreases or your income increases by more than $50 per month or $600 per year. If your children receive free meals because they get food stamps or TANF cash assistance, you must inform the school when you are no longer receiving food stamps or TANF cash assistance. You may then fill out another application giving income information.
Reapplication
Parents or legal guardians may apply for free or reduced price meals anytime during the school year. If they are not eligible now but a change occurs, like a decrease in household income, and increase in household size, becoming unemployed, or get food stamps or TANF cash assistance for their children, please complete a new application.
