The Brandywine Heights Area School District is proud to share information that was highlighted in today’s Reading Eagle and directly from Governor Shapiro’s office regarding a recent competitive grant award.  The District was awarded $434,388 and an additional grant award of  $146,522 for safety and security upgrades and mental health support. In total, the School District was successfully awarded over $585,000 in grant funding.

The School Safety and Security Committee (SSSC) of the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD) reviewed 619 eligible grant applications for improved safety and security measures within schools.

Brandywine Heights was one of 104 school entities in the state, along with 6 other school districts in Berks County, that were successfully awarded grants.

The allotted grant funds will be utilized to bolster mental health support for our students and complete integral safety and security updates at each of our schools within the district.  The safety upgrades are full district camera based technologies that offer facial recognition and person of interest tracking as well as AI analytics that are targeted at supporting the overall safety of district facilities and most importantly the safety of our students.

The safety of our students is our paramount focus, and the School District is appreciative of this grant funding from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency and are confident that this grant award will greatly assist us in our mission of putting students first as we empower and inspire to reach new heights!
