
Virtual Academy students visited Lake Tobias Wildlife Park in Halifax, PA. We explored many wildlife habitats, took a Safari Tour, and loved the hands-on experiences at the Reptiles and Exotics, and the Petting Zoo.

Today at Schuylkill Valley High School, students participated in the Special Olympics. They cheered and applauded one another as they competed in long jump, shot put, races and more. From the opening ceremonies to the bus ride home, smiles and laughter echoed in the air.

Seniors Olivia Moyer and Maci Rohrbach led the Seedlings for Schools program for the Virtual Academy. We distributed 500 seedlings (white spruce, Norway spruce, ninebark, and silky dogwood shrubs) to High School students and staff. Happy Spring!

Strike Out the Stigma on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 with the Reading Fightin Phils, game time 7:00 pm at First Energy Stadium.


Two students, Sammie and Xander, worked alongside Mr. Reed (Computer Science) and mentors from St. Lukes & Kutztown University to design, build, and program a heart rate sensor in the form of a comfortable ring for toddlers to wear when sleeping to monitor health concerns. This project was part of their capstone experience for the Computer Science pathway at BHHS.


Congratulations to Rita Kayhart for being honored with the Elbert K. Fretwell Outstanding Educator of the Year Award by the Hawk Mountain Council, Boy Scouts of America! Rita has been a paraprofessional in the district for 18 years and is well deserving of this award that recognizes those who make their students better people by modeling and teaching scouting values!

Ms. McLean's class went to the state police barracks today. Trooper Brownback and Trooper Stehlin taught them what their jobs are all about.





Virtual Academy students learned about various types of plants, how to propagate them, and proper care.


On Thursday, May 16, 2024, at 2:45 PM, Dr. Michael Hendel, MD, from St. Luke's University Health Network, will present in the Brandywine Heights High School auditorium. Attendees may enter the auditorium through the high school rotunda. The presentation will include information regarding the benefits of strength training, the risk of overtraining, and injury prevention information, specifically regarding the lower extremities.
Dr. Hendel is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in Sports Medicine. Dr. Hendel's primary goal is to get injured patients of all ages back to playing sports by delivering the highest quality care and combining nonoperative and modern surgical techniques. His practice expertise includes the minimally invasive and reconstructive treatment of the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, and ankle. As a former collegiate athlete, Dr. Hendel has a unique understanding of the challenges and demands encountered by athletes at all levels and ages.
Dr. Hendel is a former assistant team physician for the National Football League (NFL) New York Giants. During his surgical residency and fellowship, he was involved in the care of players of the New York Mets, New York Rangers, New York Knicks, New York Red Bulls, Brooklyn Nets, and the Professional Golfers' Association (PGA). Dr. Hendel has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles, including those published in the 'Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery' and 'Bone and Joint Surgery.'
We encourage all athletes, coaches, parents, trainers, and community members to join us! This is an excellent opportunity to meet an orthopedic provider in our community and for student-athletes to understand the benefits of strength training, the risk of overtraining, and injury prevention information.


The Education Showcase and Mindfulness Night brought many families together as they explored different vendor booths, listened to live music, discovered BHASD's educational opportunities, and enjoyed fun activities throughout the night.
